How to Stop Worrying and Start Living by Dale Carnegie

I have discovered this book recently and I can say it has changed my life. Below are some of my favorite rules. There are so many inspirational things you can take out of this book. I wrote down in my notebook 52 pages filled with the inspirational words of Dale Carnegie and a wealth of stories. The book brims with examples and stories from real people which makes it even more compelling and true. I highly recommend it to anyone who wishes to stop worrying and start living.

At the end of this blog post, you can find an animated review of this book, too. Check it out! Stop Worrying and Start Living :-)

Rule 1:

TODAY is the only day over which I have any control and I should make the most of my opportunities today.
THE FUTURE is today. Your future depends on what you do today.
THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY to prepare for tomorrow is to concentrate with all your intelligence, all your enthusiasm on doing today’s work superbly today.
SEIZE the day and make the most out of it!

SALUTATION TO THE DAWN

Look to this day!
For it is life, the very life of life.
In its brief course
Lie all the verities and realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth
The glory of action
The splendor of achievement.
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision,
But today well lived makes yesterday a dream of happiness
And every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore, to this day!
Such is the salutation to the dawn –
(Kalidasa)

Rule 2:
If you have a worry problem, apply this magic formula by doing these three things-
1. Ask yourself,' 'What is the worst that can possibly happen?"
2. Prepare to accept it if you have to.
3. Then calmly proceed to improve on the worst.
When we have accepted the worst, we have nothing more to lose. And that automatically means – we have everything to gain!

Rule 3:

Do you know what you do to yourself when you permit destructive emotions to dominate your life?
What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world but loses his health?
"Nervous troubles" are caused not by a physical deterioration of the nerves, but by emotions of futility, frustration, anxiety, worry, fear, defeat, despair.

Beware, worry also destroys good looks :-)

Remind yourself of the exorbitant price you can pay for worry in terms of your health. "Business men who do not know how to fight worry die young."

Rule 4:

"I'm too busy. I have no time for worry."
"The secret of being miserable is to have the leisure to bother about whether you are happy or not." So don't bother to think about it! Spit on your hands and get busy. Your blood will start circulating; your mind will start ticking - and pretty soon this whole positive upsurge of life in your body will drive worry from your mind. Get busy. Keep busy. It's the cheapest kind of medicine there is on this earth and one of the best”

Rule 5:

Eight Words That Can Transform Your Life - "Our life is what our thoughts make it." (Marcus Aurelius)
Yes, if we think happy thoughts, we will be happy. If we think miserable thoughts, we will be miserable. If we think fear thoughts, we will be fearful. Our mental attitude has an almost unbelievable effect even on our physical powers.

I am deeply convinced that our peace of mind and the joy we get out of living depends not on where we are, or what we have, or who we are, but solely upon our mental attitude.

Rule 6:

Count your blessings, not your troubles!

Rule 7:

Two men looked out from prison bars,
One saw the mud, the other saw stars.
.

When fate hands us a lemon, let's try to make a lemonade.
